George (Ship) logbook, 1796-1834; bulk: 1796-1797.

The logbook of the ship George details a shipping voyage from Jakarta towards Boston, Sept. 1796-Jan. 1797. The ship was captured at sea by a British privateering vessel. The ship's home port was Boston; the owners were Clifford Crowninshield, Samuel Gardner, Theodore Lyman, and George, Henry, John, Samuel, and Timothy Williams; the master was Crowninshield. The logbook includes inventories of the ship's cargo; equipment and supplies on board, specifically provisions; an incidence of alcoholism (drunkeness) and diseases of some of the merchant mariners on board; and notes on shipboard occupations. The logbook alaso includes ship's accounts for 1809 and 1825-1834.
